Other than taking medicine as I’ve heard that you have to take it for the rest of your life once you start your medication. Are there any other alternatives other than taking medicines? Thanks.
I am a 21 year old normal weight female. My father was hypertensive and it was not completely controlled with medication. He died of a heart attack at 39 years old.
About 3 months ago my blood pressure was checked many times. It always averaged about 135/90. My doctor told me to watch my sodium levels. Now it is about 115/77. I have been monitoring it for about a week now. All I did for the 3 months was eat extremely healthy and do cardio exercise everyday.
Is this typical? Can you really change high blood pressure this much without mediction? Does this work for everyone?
I cut off the salt and it doesnt seem to help and i dont want to be on medication my whole life.
certain food irritate it with me as well.
I frequently use herbal medication and find it to be very effective. I know raspberry leaf tea is good for lowering blood pressure in women when they are pregnant. I believe it accomplishes this by leaching iron from the body. What would be a good herb for me, a 40yr old male to use to quickly reduce my blood pressure. If not for BP perhaps a good herb used as a diuretic?
I had a health screening last friday and because I have a big upper arm the nurse used a large cuff and my BP was scarily high (140/104). Today I got it measured at a blood pressure kiosk with a "normal" sized cuff and it was better (123/84).
I know both readings are high but I’m trying to track it to help decided if I want to take medication or not. I’m already trying to lose weight which I know will bring it down.
Can anyone tell me if "Resperate" really lowers your blood pressure? (www.resperate.com). I’d really like to get off my medication if I could.
My dad has high blood pressure and was prescribed some medication to lower it. He has to keep taking it for as long as his doctor tells him it’s ok to stop but his medication (Tarka) is pretty expensive and sometimes he can’t afford it so he just stops taking it. I worry that something might happen to him when he does this. Does anyone know where I can find Tarka for less (he currently pays for a 30 day supply of Tarka 2/240mg) or do you know of a natural way to lower blood pressure?
I have somewhat high blood pressure right on the edge of being stage one hypertension. I don’t want to take medication because A.) I don’t have insurance at the moment and B.) Blood pressure medication is bad for the liver.
So the question is: how can I lower my blood pressure without using medication? Thanks!
I had a sudden onset of high blood pressure this past month. I don’t know if this is related, but I had sinus surgery less than a week ago. I was really surprised that the condition came on so quickly, because I’m only 34 and I’ve always had low-normal blood pressure, but I do have some risk factors (overweight, inactive, high sodium diet). So…
Here’s what I’m doing:
taking blood pressure medication
not adding much salt to my diet
trying not to get stressed out easily
monitoring my blood pressure at home
I know that I need to lose weight, exercise more, try to find low sodium foods, and avoid caffeine. Do you have any additional suggestions? Anything I need to be aware of when grocery shopping (low sodium products)?
By the way, this is so new to me, I didn’t even know if I’m correct in placing this in the heart disease category.
PS: Sorry, I noticed someone just asked this a few minutes ago. Any answers, though, are greatly appreciated! ![]()
Any suggestions for salt substitutes? I love herbs and seasonings, especially mexican-style seasonings, but I’ve never had to worry about the sodium content.
I have untreated high blood pressure (usually around 144/99). I am taking my blood pressure each day to monitor the situation and establish what level I am at. I know I need to go on medication, but I want a medication that will have few side effects. I am particularly concerned about sexual side effects and I would still like to be able to have a couple drinks now and again.
